Deer's are a Leap too far in Knockout Cup
6 September 1998, Knockout Cup
KMLC FC 0 Deer's Leap 6
Records show us in a different kit colour this season. The classic racing green and black stripes being replaced with red and blue shirts, blue shirts and socks. It might have happened last season - can't remember to be honest.
After missing last year's Cup competitions (looking back, late registration might have been the reason) the Kylies were back in their traditional 'getting knocked out at the first attempt' form.
Following on from their poor 97/98 campaign a whole raft of new players lined up. Adams, Steven Payne ('Scholesy'), Winters and the latest new keeper Andy 'The Falcon'* Humphries all made debuts.
Deer's Leap were a Division 1 side and one of the top Sunday clubs at the time so I can't imagine we were too disappointed or surprised at a 6-0 defeat. Humphries celebrated his first game with a shared Spoons award with MVP Gary Payne.
Humphries
Adams, Carpenter, Harries, Cook
G.Payne, Smedley, S.Payne, Rees
Watling, Merry
Subs: Winters for Harries, Goldsworthy for Smedley, Hobbs for Adams
MVP: G.Payne
Spoons: G.Payne, Humphries
*He wasn't like a Falcon, he spent a lot of time in The Falcon
Next match - 13 Sep v Highworth Plough
