Six goals shared in Akers classic

19 January 1997, Division Six at Ballards Ash

Akers Garage 3 KMLC FC 3

Also known as the 'fingers up the nose' match!

Akers had already beaten the Kylies twice this season, once in the league and once in the Cup, but that was before the team found their form with seven wins out of the last eight.

If I remember correctly there was an early sending off. Was it Brian with one of his disguised hand balls or was it Neil with one of his flying 'Superman' style saves? Not sure, but I think we were down to ten, could be wrong.

The game's highlight was a stunning solo goal from Gould. Breaking from inside his own half and with no Kylie player in front of him he charged on leaving the Akers defence in his wake. As he reached the Akers' area and let fly a late challenge came in on the midfield maestro. The ball ended up in the net and Stu thrust two fingers into his opponents nostrils as he rose from the poor challenge and taunted his prostrate opponent. The referee pulled Stu to one side and sort of admonished him while finding it funny at the same time. At least that's how Stu tells it.

Big Al won MVP so we must have been soaking up the pressure so I wonder if we actually led and conceded a late leveller but the unbeaten run continued.
